Kao Jai Coffee

Kao Jai was my first, and so far only, Thai coffee.  I can't compare it to other Thai coffees, just to other coffees I've had.

Kao Jai means to understand in Thai. At least according to the website.  The founders chose this as a company name because they want the coffee to help bridge the gap between people.  To foster a great understanding between peoples.  My phrasing.  They say it much better on the website.  Go check it out.  http://www.kaojaicoffee.com/

I needed to fill in Tennessee on my map and I had seen posts from Kao Jai on intstagram so I checked out their website.  Seeing their story and having never tried Thai coffee made them an easy choice for  ordering.  I love their mission and I believe in using what little money I do have to support companies who have a social consciousness. It's also important to me to shop with smaller businesses.  I can't avoid the big companies in 100% of my shopping but I can when buying coffee.

The coffee itself was lightly sweet with a lower acidity and a lingering finish.  The aroma was strong, especially the times I brewed it in the beehouse.  I got a citrus flavor even without a citrus acid.  Like an orange gummy candy with some cocoa powder sprinkled on it. Not quite that sweet, but that was the flavor I picked up.  It was fine black and also with a drop of condensed milk.  For that one I used the V60 and ground the beans a bit finer so they would take longer to brew.  I wanted it a bit stronger.  It was good.  Not a calorie conscious drink, but worth the extra calories. Black I had it with breakfast a couple of times and it went well with my omelette and  also with my oatmeal.  I didn't like it as much with my spinach salad at lunch though.  Not bad with my goat cheese/cheddar grilled cheese sandwich with onions as far as lunch pairings go.  Never did try it with dinner.  I liked it with the condensed milk as an afternoon pick me up.  Too much sugar for early in the day.

I love coffee - GOOD COFFEE, not that stuff in a can.  I'm addicted to the small batch roasted beans from artisan roasters around the country.  These are some notes on coffees I have enjoyed.  (the ones I didn't like I pretend didn't happen to me)
